You’ll receive a Statement of Attainment on successful assessment and determination of competency.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to store, handle and transport explosives in the resources and infrastructure industries, including segregating explosives and accessories, maintaining stock records and managing explosives storage. It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.

If you require foundational knowledge of explosives, the principles, power, and safe handling, this course is an essential starting point.

While incorporating the mandatory RIIBLA205E Store, handle and transport explosives Unit of Competency, the program provides broader introductory knowledge. Delivery combines self-paced pre-course eLearning with 2 days of intensive, practical sessions on a dedicated range, featuring critical demonstrations and hands-on assessments. Enroll if you need the core theory and practical skills to safely manage and move explosives in an industry setting.

AKS has the following entry requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs. The course entry interview will also assess whether students can use digital technologies
  • Have sufficient language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills, for example, to be able to read the training materials and write assessment tasks. This will be tested through an LLN assessment as part of the course entry process. Students will need to achieve ACSF level 2 for reading, writing, numeracy and oral communication to enter the course. Digital literacy is also assessed through this process
  • Provide either a current National Police Check obtained within 3 months of being accepted into the course or a statutory declaration that states that the applicant has been granted an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) clearance at or above the Baseline level, and that they have not been subject to any conduct issues or disciplinary action within the past twelve (12) months.
  • Fundamentals of explosives
    • Introduction to the basic principles and inherent power of explosives.
  • Storage, handling, and transport
    • Content covering the requirements of the nationally recognised Unit of Competency (RIIBLA205E) for the safe Store, handle and transport explosives.
  • Foundational knowledge
    • Broader foundational theory related to explosives operations, extending beyond the singular accredited unit.
  • Practical demonstrations and assessments
    • Hands-on activities and demonstrations conducted during the dedicated 2 days of practical sessions on a range.

AKS uses aXcelerate as the student management system. The Learner Portal allows you to view and access information about your training including your Courses, Resources and Personal Details. We’ll create your user account and provide you with access to the Learner Portal.

We conduct the practical sessions on a dedicated range, including demonstrations and practical assessments. We use Rurex in Byrock, NSW, a fully licensed, and insured facility with unwavering commitment to excellence and safety.
